Newsroom (October 7, 2021, 8:50 PM, Gaudium Press) The Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines, Archbishop Charles Brown, presided the Holy Mass in which the pontifical canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of Pity, the “Mother of Novaliches” took place. The act coincided with the Feast of Our Lady of Pity and the 165th anniversary of the creation of the parish.
Coronation was presided over by the Papal Nuncio
This ceremony held on September 24 at the diocesan shrine and parish of Our Lady of Mercy in Quezon City, took place during a Holy Mass presided by the Papal Nuncio and concelebrated by Bishop Roberto Gaa of Novaliches and emeritus Bishops Antonio Tobias and Theodore Bacani.
God chooses the small and the humble and exalts them and leads them to glory
In his homily, the prelate recalled that God exalts the humble just as he did the Blessed Virgin Mary. “Today we celebrate her exultation – her coronation – in heaven. God chooses the small and the humble and exalts them and brings them to glory. That is what God does with Our Lady and we celebrate that mystery, that wonderful reality in this feast today, in your parish feast of Our Lady of Pity,” he stressed.
Secondary Patroness of the Diocese
Our Lady of Mercy was declared the secondary patroness of the diocese over her declaration as the mother of the diocese in January. In June, the nuncio also presided over a Holy Mass for the declaration of the Shrine’s spiritual affinity with the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome. On the occasion, he stressed that these “graces” received by the diocese through the shrine “are true signs of God’s mercy.” (EPC)
