This special bond means that the special indulgences attached to the Basilica of St. Mary Major can be obtained, under the same conditions, in these two churches.

Newsroom – Philippines – Manila (October 7, 2021 2:30 PM Gaudium Press) The Holy See has established a “bond of spiritual affinity” between the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome and two parish churches in the province of Bohol in the Philippines.

Spiritual benefits for the faithful

Through this act, Catholics who now make a pilgrimage to the Assumption Parish of the Shrine of Our Lady-Dauis or to Our Lady of Light-Loon Parish can enjoy all the spiritual benefits of a Papal Basilica.

In addition, this special link also means that the special indulgences attached to the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome can be obtained, under the same conditions, in the two churches of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.

Attachment to the Basilica of St. Mary Major

The news was released last Sunday, October 3, by the Dauis Church on its Facebook page. Despite this, the Philippine Diocese has not yet made an official announcement of this affiliation.

This was not the first time that a Philippine church has been linked to the Basilica of St. Mary Major. In April of this year, the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica of Extremadura in the city of Loboc also received this honour. (EPC)
