The meeting takes place due to the attacks against Christians in the country. The future Cardinal Pizzaballa was present.

Newsroom (14/08/2023 11:08, Gaudium Press) Hoping that it will not remain mere promises, the Christians of the Holy Land welcomed the solidarity expressed by the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, who met with the future Latin Cardinal and Patriarch of Jerusalem, Piebattista Pizzaballa, OFM, after the worrying attacks on Christians in the Holy Land.

The meeting between the new cardinal and Herzog took place yesterday, August 9, at the Stella Maris Monastery on the heights of Mount Carmel. Bishop Pizzaballa was joined by representatives of other Christian communities.

The Christian leaders expressed their “satisfaction for this act that supports the call for the establishment of a closer framework of peace, understanding and coexistence,” said the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

The meeting place between the Christian leaders and Herzog is symbolic, as days ago ultra-Orthodox Jews had stormed it. Followers of Rabbi Eliezer Berland claim the property where the former monastery stands.

But it is particularly in Jerusalem where Christian residents and pilgrims are constantly spat upon, insulted and even physically assaulted.
