Newsroom(08/08/2022 15:00, Gaudium Press) Portugal Post Office has issued two stamps and a philatelic block to celebrate the next edition of World Youth Day (WYD), which will take place in Lisbon in 2023.
Spreading the WYD message around the world
In total 150 thousand stamps and 20 thousand blocks will be issued. The stamps will have a value of $0.57 and $1.05, and the block can be purchased for $3.50. The organization of WYD Lisbon 2023 believes in the power of this philatelic issue to “spread the message of this Day around the world.
An Augmented Reality algorithm has also been developed that will allow, through a free smartphone application, users to access the video message recorded by Pope Francis in which the Pontiff invites young people from around the world to the event.
Good relationship between Portugal Post Office and the Catholic Church
According to Portugal Post Office, the issuance of stamps has taken place since 1853 and the collaboration with the Catholic Church at the philatelic level is one of the most constant over the years, starting in 1895 with a series dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the birth of St. Anthony.
“All papal visits have been illustrated with stamp issues, all the outstanding moments in the life and history of our Church and our saints have been underlined in the same way,” the post office comments.
The institution recalls the special affection towards Our Lady of Fatima, who has been honored several times with special philatelic issues, and announces that next year Pope Francis’ visit to Portugal will be the central theme of a stamp issue. (EPC)
