Pope Leo will go back to Castel Gandolfo, the traditional spot for the Popes Summer vacation. Since 2016, the Villas have been open to the public as a museum, following changes implemented under Pope Francis.
Newsroom, June 17, 2025, Gaudium Press – The Prefecture of the Papal Household announced on Tuesday, June 17, the public schedule for Pope Leo XIV during the months of July and August. Both private and general Wednesday audiences will be suspended for most of July and are set to resume on the 30th.
Pope’s Summer Vacation at Castel Gandolfo
On the afternoon of Sunday, July 6, the Holy Father will travel to Castel Gandolfo, located about 25 kilometers from Rome, where he will spend part of the summer resting at the Papal Villas. Since 2016, the Villas have been open to the public as a museum, following their conversion under Pope Francis.
On Sunday, July 13, at 10:00 a.m. local time, Pope Leo XIV will preside over Mass at the Pontifical Parish of Saint Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo. At noon on the same day, he will lead the Angelus prayer in Piazza della Libertà, in front of the Apostolic Palace.
General Audiences Suspended in July
On Sunday, July 20, in the morning, the Holy Father will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of Albano. Once again, at noon, he will pray the Angelus in Piazza della Libertà. Later that afternoon, he will return to the Vatican. The General Audiences on Wednesdays will resume on July 30.
In August, the Pope will return to Castel Gandolfo. On August 15, at 10:00 a.m. local time, Leo XIV will celebrate Holy Mass at the Pontifical Parish. At noon, he will pray the Angelus in the Piazza. On August 17, the Angelus will again be prayed at noon, followed by his return to the Vatican that afternoon. (EPC)
