Father Jean-Marc Micas, current French Provincial Superior of the Society of Fathers of St. Sulpice, will take over the French Diocese in place of Bishop Nicolas Brouwer.

Newsroom (31/03/2022 09:31, Gaudium Press) On Wednesday morning, March 30th, Pope Francis appointed Father Jean-Marc Micas as the new bishop for the French Diocese of Tarbes-Lourdes, where one of the world’s most visited Marian shrines is located.

The priest is currently the French Provincial Superior of the Society of Fathers of St. Sulpice, a society of apostolic life founded in 1642 and dedicated to priestly formation.

At 58 years of age, the priest will take over the administration of the Diocese of Lourdes in place of Bishop Nicolas Brouwet, who was transferred to the Diocese of Nîmes in August 2021. Through a video, released on social media, the new bishop expressed his surprise at the appointment.
“Dear brothers and sisters, I already love you … I pray for you and I do so with great tenderness and great impatience to get to know your faces, your names, and the communities to which you belong and then walk this path with you,” he stated.
