Today, Vietnam is considered the second most Catholic country in Asia, second only to the Philippines.
Hanoi – Vietnam (25/08/2023 20:00, Gaudium Press) From August 13 to 15, around 2,300 young Catholics from six dioceses in central Vietnam took part in the first Central Youth Meeting held at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Vang in Quang Tri province.
Youth Gathering Program
Following the theme ‘Do whatever he tells you’, the initiative offered participants the opportunity to listen to talks, attend Holy Mass, actively participate in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, recite the Holy Rosary, sing devotional hymns, perform traditional dances, and pay homage to Our Lady with flowers.
During the meeting, the participants were also able to celebrate the Liturgical Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, showing a strong devotion to the Mother of God. The young people present represented the Archdiocese of Hue and the Dioceses of Ban Me Thuot, Da Nang, Kontum, Nha Trang and Qui Nhon.
The Catholic Church in Vietnam
Currently, the Catholic Church in Vietnam has 49 Bishops, including two Cardinals, six Archbishops and 41 Bishops. In addition, the country has 2,675 parishes, 4,493 priests, 2 permanent deacons, 2,179 brothers, 3,172 major seminarians, 14,797 consecrated religious, 617 members of secular institutes, 5,883 lay missionaries and 56,203 catechists. Vietnam is also considered to have the second largest number of Catholics in Asia, after the Philippines. (EPC)
