In Europe, 400 priests and religious have died because of Covid 19

According to data sent by 38 episcopates or individual bishops, the highest number of deaths was recorded in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

Newsroom (October 2, 2020, 8:30 pm Gaudium Press) According to the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE), 400 priests and religious have died because of COVID 19.

According to data sent by 38 episcopates or individual bishops, the highest number of deaths was recorded in the Netherlands (181), Italy (121) and Spain (70). Most of them were elderly people.

At the annual plenary session of the CCEE, held September 25-26, the report “The Church in Europe after the Pandemic. Creation and Community Perspectives,” was presented. The document shows the Church’s response to the pandemic and discusses communications between the Church and local authorities amidst the outbreak and the spread of COVID19.
