The solemn pontifical coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 17, 2023.

Newsroom(04/28/2022 14:23, Gaudium Press) The Royal and Venerable Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament of Mafra, Portugal, is receiving several donations in gold and silver to make a crown for the pontifical canonical coronation of the image of Our Lady of Solitude.

Crown to be made starting in August

The work to make the crown for the Portuguese Marian image will begin in August, which is the limit month for donations in metal (up to now donations of cutlery, jewelry and even money are being accepted).

The solemn ceremony of pontifical coronation is scheduled to take place on September 17, 2023. On that same date a Holy Mass will be celebrated to close the International Forum of Sisterhoods, which in 2023 will be held in Portugal.

Third Portuguese Marian image to receive pontifical coronation

This is the third Portuguese Marian image to receive the grace of pontifical coronation. The first was Our Lady of Sameiro in 1904 and the second was the image of Our Lady of Fatima in 1946.

According to the Royal and Venerable Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament of Mafra, this is the greatest pontifical grace that Mafra has ever received. “Let us pray God to make us worthy of this distinction, for it does not serve vain and fickle earthly greatness, but the certainty that all we do is for God,” says a note published by the Brotherhood.
