The reopening ceremony of the famous French Cathedral was scheduled for December 8, 2024.
Paris – France(17/12/2023 15:00, Gaudium Press) During a recent visit to the French Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, President Emmanuel Macron extended an invitation to Pope Francis for the Pontiff to take part in the reopening ceremony of the historic French cathedral, scheduled for December 8, 2024.
Periodic Visits to Supervise Reconstruction Progress
Accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, the French president also highlighted the extraordinary progress made in restoring and rebuilding the nave, choir, moldings and tower of Notre Dame Cathedral. The reconstruction of the one-meter-high spire is based on an old project by Viollet-le-Duc, a famous French architect of the 19th century.
Since the Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral fire on April 15, 2019, President Macron has followed a pious tradition of periodically visiting the French church to oversee the progress of its reconstruction. The French ruler said that since then, the whole nation has been rebuilding.
Restoration Work Will Be Completed On Schedule, President Reassures
With almost a year to go until the reopening of the iconic French cathedral, Emmanuel Macron promised that the restoration work will be completed on schedule and also announced the opening of a museum to commemorate the period of restoration after the fire.
During the visit, honor was also paid to General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who died in August and was a key figure in the Cathedral’s reconstruction work. As a tribute to his dedication, the general’s name was inscribed by a craftsman on the wood of the spire. (EPC)
