Francis Orders Canonical Visitation of Spain’s Seminaries

Pope Francis has ordered a canonical visitation of Spanish seminaries, local newspaper El Debate has reported.

Newsroom (12/11/2022 9:53 AM, Gaudium Press) — The canonical visit to the seminars will be carried out by the Uruguayan bishops Milton Luis Tróccoli and Arturo Eduardo Fajardos, during the months of January and February 2023.

The visitation which will take place between the months of January and February 2023, as confirmed by sources from the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE).

This visit has been commissioned to the Uruguayan bishops Milton Luis Tróccoli and Arturo Eduardo Fajardo, with the aim of « promoting the implementation of the Spanish Ratio ‘Form missionary pastors’», on the formation of future priests.

This Priestly Formation Plan was approved by the Spanish bishops in 2019 to adapt the formation in the seminars to the guidelines set by Pope Francis with the Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis ‘The Gift of Presbyteral Vocation’, December 2016.

The plan of the Spanish Church ‘Forming missionary pastors’ has been valued « very positively » by the Dicastery for the Clergy, according to the EEC.
