A Portuguese-American production portrays the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917. An agnostic interviewer seeks to understand what happened in Sister Lucia’s childhood.

Newsdesk (08/10/2021, 1:15 PM, Gaudium Press) – Starting this week, the movie Fatima will be shown in cinemas all over France. For at least one week, and perhaps a second, depending on the turnout, the film depicting the story of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917 will be available to watch in cinemas throughout France.

Three children, small shepherds in the Portuguese region of Fatima, encounter a beautiful woman, the Virgin Mary. The apparition will attract the attention of pilgrims and enemies, some will see the fact with faith, others with hate. The Celestial Visitor is of unparalleled beauty, but is always sad and asks that men pray the rosary to obtain the end of war and peace in the world, as the children report.

The children’s parents and especially the authorities will not give confidence to the story of the little shepherds, which will be a period of much suffering and persecution for the three.

The fame of the apparitions travels the world and the number of pilgrims increases more and more. The ecclesiastical authorities conduct a thorough investigation of the facts and the authenticity of the miraculous apparition is finally confirmed by the Church.

The film is a conversation between an agnostic writer who tries to understand the mystical childhood experiences of the Carmelite nun, Sister Lucia. Throughout the interview, the visitor’s questions are always skeptical, which allows Sister Lucia to show clear answers based on her deep faith.

The Portuguese-American film by producer Marco Pontecorvo was released in 2020 and has already been shown in North America, Australia, and Spain, and now arrives in French cinemas. (FM)
