The theme of the 325th edition of the Feast will be “Mother of Carmel, with you and your spouse, St. Joseph, we go up to the house of the Lord.” The motto is “In the centennial of the Basilica, we all are living stones.”
Pernambuco – Recife (July 7, 2021 1:49 PM Gaudium Press) The Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Recife, Pernambuco, began double celebrations: its patroness feast and the jubilee year marking the 100th anniversary of its pontifical elevation.
Celebration of 100 Masses
The 325th edition of the Feast will see the celebration of 100 Holy Masses and follows the theme, ‘Mother of Carmel, with you and your spouse St. Joseph we go up to the house of the Lord’, and the motto ‘In the centennial of the Basilica, we are all living stones,’ (1Peter 2:5)
The Eucharistic celebrations started yesterday, July 6, and will en on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, July 16. The Holy Masses are taking place every hour. They will be celebrated at the Basilica of Carmel, at the cloister of the Convent, and at the Church of the Third Order of Carmel.
Commemorative Seal and Hymn of the Centennial
The first day of the Novena started yesterday, July 6, with a Solemn Opening Mass and Raising of the Flag, presided by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife, Most Rev. Limacêdo Antônio da Silva, and followed by the presentation of the Commemorative Seal and the Centennial Hymn.
On July 15, at 6:30 PM, after the recitation of Vespers, a group of Health practitioners will process with the mantle crown of Our Lady and the crown of the Baby Jesus.
Closing Mass and Procession
On the day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron saint of Recife, July 16, the closing Mass will be presided over by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Olinda and Recife, Most Rev. Fernando Saburido. The Eucharistic celebration will be broadcast life by Rede Vida de Comunicação, TV Carmelo and Radio Olinda FM 105.3
Starting at 2 PM, the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will go out in procession on an open vehicle. It will process through the main streets and avenues of Pernambuco and neighbouring areas. (EPC)
