Vatican City (Monday, 12/30/2014, Gaudium Press) More than 5.9 million people took part in various celebrations and meetings with the Pope Francis during 2014, according to data released on Monday, December 29, by the Prefecture of the Papal Household, an office of the Holy See.

The Information took into account the 43 weekly general audiences given by the Holy Father in the Vatican (1.19 million participants), the special audiences (567,000 people), the liturgical celebrations in the Basilica and in the St Peter’s Square (1.1 million) and at the prayer of the Angelus on Sundays (3.04 million).

In April, the largest attendance of pilgrims of the year took place, when the Church celebrated the Holy Week and the canonization of Popes John Paul II and John XXIII, having in attendance 730,000 people.

These figures do not take into account the international travels made by the Pope, to places such as the Holy Land, South Korea, Albania, Strasbourg and Turkey, as well as his four trips in Italy, including a visit to the military cemetery of Redipuglia in the occasion of the centenary of the First World War, as well as other visits to parishes in Rome.
