The stamp for the VIII Centennial of the Cathedral of Burgos is one of more than 90 stamps that the Post Office has dedicated to motifs of the province throughout the XX and XXI centuries.
Newsroom (December 13, 2021, 10:35 AM, Gaudium Press) The Spanish Post Office has presented a new stamp dedicated to the Cathedral of Burgos on the occasion of the Catholic temple’s eighth centenary. The octagonal-shaped stamp is outlined with the dome of the temple seen from the ground. The eight centuries commemorated are those of the beginning of the cathedral’s construction, which began in 1221 on a pre-existing Romanesque building.
Launching ceremony attended by the Archbishop
The octagonal stamp – intended for philatelic collectors and users in general – is printed on a block sheet of which 140,000 copies will be issued and will cost 5.80 euros each.
The stamp launching ceremony was attended by the Archbishop of Burgos, Most Rev. Mario Iceta; the vice-president of the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral Foundation – Burgos 2021, Antonio Miguel Méndez Pozo; and the director of Postal Philately, Jordi Escruela.
More than 90 stamps were dedicated to the province of Burgos
The stamp for the VIII Centennial of the Cathedral of Burgos is one of more than 90 stamps that the Post Office has dedicated to motifs from the province throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. The last one, presented on November 26, was dedicated to the Monumental Nativity Scene of the Army, which is usually installed in the temple of Burgos.
El Cid Campeador, Santo Domingo de Gusmán and Félix Rodriguez de la Fuente were some of the characters related to Burgos that starred in philatelic emissions. Also emblematic buildings such as the Frías Castle, the monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos or the Lerma parador. The gastronomy of Burgos or the archaeological site of Atapuerca has also had its philatelic emission. (EPC)
