110 Mozambican Catholics received Confirmation on Pentecost in Beira; Archbishop emphasizes the Holy Spirit’s role in Church renewal.
Newsroom, June 11, 2025, Gaudium Press On Sunday, June 8, the Solemnity of Pentecost, an occasion when the Church recalls the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, 110 Catholics received the sacrament of Confirmation in a ceremony held in the Archdiocese of Beira, Mozambique.
Without the Holy Spirit, the liturgy would be a theatrical play
This solemn celebration was presided over at the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, at the Cathedral See, by Archbishop Dom Claudio Dalla Zuanna, with concelebrants including Auxiliary Bishop Dom António Constantino; the parish priest, Friar José Juma; as well as other priests of the Archdiocese, and it was attended by a large number of faithful.
In his homily, Dom Claudio Dalla Zuanna recalled the Jubilee Year of Hope, which is being celebrated by the Catholic Church worldwide. He took the opportunity to affirm that this year of grace and renewal of Christian life is an action of the Holy Spirit, and without this same Spirit, the Church would be a mere organization and the liturgy nothing more than a theatrical performance.
Do not abandon the Catholic Church
Turning to the confirmands, the Archbishop of Beira emphasized that through the sacrament of Confirmation, God is building His Church and that it is a gift granted to each of the confirmands. The prelate also took the opportunity to ask for the confirmands’ collaboration and exhorted them not to abandon the Church.
In general, the Solemnity of Pentecost was celebrated in the Archdiocese of Beira through numerous festive celebrations in its different parishes, marked by a vigil during which the faithful sang invoking the Holy Spirit and participated in moments of prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
