Catholic parishes across the UAE launch summer camps blending faith, friendship, learning and recreation for children and youth.
Newsroom (14/07/2026 Gaudium Press ) As the school year draws to a close, Catholic parishes across the United Arab Emirates have opened their doors to children and young people through a range of summer camps designed to combine recreation, faith formation and community building.
Despite uncertainty surrounding the organization of some programmes until the final stages of planning, several parishes successfully launched camps that provide meaningful opportunities for children to deepen their faith, strengthen friendships and make the most of their vacation period. Supported by dedicated volunteers, catechists and parish leaders, the camps reflect a shared commitment to accompanying young people during the summer months.
While themes and activities vary from one parish to another, each programme aims to create a welcoming environment where children can learn, grow and experience a sense of belonging within the Church community.
Sharjah’s St. Michael’s Parish Encourages Children to “Flip & Flap”
At St. Michael’s Parish in Sharjah, organizers chose the theme “Flip & Flap” for younger participants. The concept combines two symbolic actions: “Flip,” referring to turning the pages of the Bible, and “Flap,” representing the spreading of wings associated with love, peace and freedom.
Children gather in the late afternoon for learning sessions that are followed by creative and interactive activities. To support continued learning beyond the camp setting, participants receive materials to take home and review each day’s lessons. Older children engage in interactive talks and team-building exercises linked to the daily themes, encouraging both personal development and collaboration.
Abu Dhabi Cathedral Highlights Family and Eucharistic Formation
At St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Abu Dhabi, the summer camp is centered on the theme “Family of Faith: One Family, United in Christ.” The programme aligns with the parish’s ongoing catechetical focus on the Eucharist as well as the UAE’s Year of the Family.
Running from July 6 to July 31, the camp features weekly talks delivered by parish priests, alongside active games, arts and crafts activities, and two organized field trips. A distinctive aspect of the programme is the daily celebration of Mass, where campers actively participate as lectors and choir members, reinforcing both faith formation and community involvement.
“Instruments of Peace” Inspires Young People in Al Ain
At St. Mary’s Church in Al Ain, the summer camp draws inspiration from the Prayer of St. Francis and commemorates the 800th anniversary of his death through the theme “Instruments of Peace.”
The programme encourages children and young people to embrace values commonly associated with the Franciscan tradition, including peace, love, humility, compassion and service. Organizers hope participants will carry these values into their daily lives and become agents of peace within their families, schools and communities.
Each day begins with a theme song and a camp prayer based on the Beatitudes before moving into a range of engaging activities. Participants are divided into four groups—Love, Light, Hope and Faith—allowing them to build friendships, develop teamwork skills and take part in age-appropriate experiences.
Ras Al Khaimah Celebrates a “Carnival of Creation”
At St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Ras Al Khaimah, children participated in a three-day summer camp under the theme “Carnival of Creation.” Inspired by the Franciscan Jubilee Year, the programme explored the theme of creation through interactive learning sessions facilitated by volunteers and leaders.
Organized according to age groups, the camp featured a variety of activities, including an art competition, movie screenings and daily Mass celebrations. The event concluded with a vibrant Carnival of Creation parade, complemented by game stalls that provided participants with a festive and memorable ending to the programme.
Al Dhannah Camp Invites Children on a Journey Toward Christ
Further south, St. John the Baptist Parish in Al Dhannah organized its summer camp during the second week of July under the theme “Destination: Christ.”
Inspired by the Gospel passage, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), the camp sought to help children recognize God’s presence in everyday life. Through age-appropriate activities, shared prayer, teamwork and creative expression, participants were encouraged to strengthen their faith while experiencing the Church as a caring and supportive community rooted in fellowship.
Strengthening Faith and Community
Across the UAE, these summer camps demonstrate the continuing role of parish communities in nurturing the spiritual and social development of children and young people. Beyond providing holiday entertainment, the programmes offer valuable spaces where participants can build lasting friendships, deepen their relationship with God and strengthen their connection to the Church.
Through the efforts of priests, volunteers, catechists and parents, Catholic parishes continue to create enriching experiences that foster faith, belonging and community among the next generation of believers.
