THIS PRIVILEGE WAS APPROVED BY THE PRIOR OF THE DOMINICAN CONVENT AND RECTOR OF THE SPANISH BASILICA, FATHER JAVIER FERNÁNDEZ.
Newsroom (31/03/2025 21:32, Gaudium Press) The Diocesan Shrine of St. Vincent Ferrer in Mamatid, Philippines, has become the first church in the country to be twinned with the Basilica of St. Vincent Ferrer in Valencia, Spain.
This privilege was approved by the prior of the Dominican convent and rector of the Spanish Basilica, Father Javier Fernández. The religious conferred on the Filipino shrine a ‘bond of affinity’ with the Basilica dedicated to the patron saint of Valencia.
Recognition of the deep and widespread devotion to St. Vincent Ferrer
According to the priest, the twinning was granted in recognition of the shrine’s deep and broad devotion to Saint Vincent Ferrer, a renowned Dominican friar and preacher who lived in the 1300s.
This spiritual link also means that all the indulgences linked to the Basilica in Spain can also be obtained, under the same conditions, at the Laguna Shrine. “The benefits of spiritual twinning are those inherent to Vincentian devotion,” says a statement from the Basilica.
The faithful will be able to obtain a plenary indulgence on the feast day of St. Vincent
“The Sanctuary of St. Vincent can establish a designated day each month for a Holy Mass to be offered for the intentions of the Basilica, and the faithful can obtain a plenary indulgence on the feast day of St. Vincent under the conditions required by the Church,” the note concludes.
The official declaration of the spiritual twinning will take place on June 6, 2025, during a Holy Mass of thanksgiving that will mark the 570th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Vincent Ferrer. (EPC)
