On this occasion, Pope Francis has granted a Jubilee Year and a Plenary Indulgence to those who visit any Franciscan temple in the country and take part in the Jubilee rites.

Plenary Indulgence granted by Pope Francis
According to the pontifical document, approved by the Apostolic Penitentiary of the Holy See, the Holy Father “benignly grants a Plenary Indulgence, under the usual conditions to be earned by the repentant faithful and moved by divine love, from December 26, 2023 until December 26, 2024”.
According to the decree signed by the Major Penitentiary, Cardinal Maurus Piacenza, this granting of a Plenary Indulgence, in the context of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of the Franciscans in Mexico, aims to increase the piety of the faithful and the salvation of souls.
Requirements to Receive a Plenary Indulgence
The conditions for obtaining this grace granted by the Church in this particular case are:
- to confess sacramentally;
- to receive Eucharistic communion;
- to pray for the intentions of Pope Francis;
- to visit any Franciscan church as a pilgrim; and
- to participate devoutly in the jubilee rites or set aside a suitable time for meditation, concluding with the recitation of the Creed, Our Father, Invocations to Our Lady or Invocations to St. Francis of Assisi. (EPC)
