Argentine Catholic Action thanked the national team after the World Cup final, praising unity, perseverance, dedication and pride.
Newsroom (20/07/2026 Gaudium Press ) Following Argentina’s defeat in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, Argentine Catholic Action (ACA) issued a public message of gratitude to the national team, highlighting the values of commitment, perseverance and unity demonstrated throughout the tournament.
Argentina finished as runners-up on Sunday after a narrow 1-0 extra-time loss to Spain. Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute, securing the World Cup title for the Spanish side and earning the country its second star.
Despite the disappointment of the result, scenes of appreciation unfolded across Argentina as many supporters took to the streets to celebrate and thank the team led by coach Lionel Scaloni. For many fans, the campaign carried special significance amid widespread expectations that it may mark the end of an era for the national team and possibly the farewell of captain Lionel Messi, who, at 39 years old, could be concluding his international career with the Albiceleste.
Reflecting a sentiment shared by many Argentines, ACA chose to focus on the journey rather than the final score. The Catholic organization published a photograph on social media showing Messi alongside several teammates on the field, accompanied by a simple message: “Thank you!”
The statement opened with words of appreciation for the players’ commitment and collective spirit.
“Thank you for the shared journey, the dedication, and the pride of being a team,” the message began.
ACA went on to recognize what it described as the enduring value of the team’s accomplishments beyond the final outcome.
“Thank you for everything valuable that was built along the way. From Catholic Action Argentina, we want to embrace and thank our team for representing us with such dignity, dedication, and heart in this World Cup final,” the organization stated.
The message emphasized that the lessons learned from the national team’s campaign extend far beyond sport. According to ACA, the team embodied principles that can serve as a model for communities throughout the country.
The organization highlighted “an enormous learning experience that transcends sports and that we are called to replicate in our communities: the value of constant work, the strength to persevere in the face of difficulty and, above all, the humility of a group that gave everything, united, until the last minute.”
ACA concluded its statement with a prayer, entrusting the players to the protection of Jesus and the Virgin of Luján, one of Argentina’s most revered religious figures.
The organization asked “Jesus and the Virgin of Luján to bless this team and that, as a country, we may know how to play the game of fraternal unity that football has given us.”
Ending on a note of gratitude and encouragement, ACA thanked the players for the inspiration they provided throughout the World Cup campaign.
