UN Secretary‑General António Guterres met Pope Leo XIV and Cardinal Parolin on June 11 to discuss world peace, current crises, and UN‑Vatican cooperation.

Newsroom, June 13, 2025, Gaudium Press – Vatican City (06/11/2025 12:17, Gaudium Press) This Thursday morning, June 11, Pope Leo XIV received in private audience in his office in the Paul VI Hall the Secretary‑General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres.

Later, the diplomat met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Msgr. Paul Richard Gallagher.

Topics discussed during the meeting

During the cordial talks with the Secretariat of State, the Holy See expressed its support for the United Nations’ commitment to world peace. They also discussed some ongoing processes and upcoming UN‑organized summits.

Additionally, they addressed the difficulties the Organization faces in dealing with several current crises worldwide and discussed specific situations of conflict and instability. (EPC)
