STATEMENT REGARDING THE LATEST RAILWAY DISASTERS

The Permanent Commission of the Foro de Laicos de España publicly expresses its sorrow over the death of the people who lost their lives this week in various railway accidents.

At the same time that we send our words of condolence to their families, we raise our prayers to Heaven for the eternal rest of the deceased and ask for consolation for those who today mourn their loss.

To our Mother, the Virgin Mary, we entrust the consolation of those who are suffering most from these losses, and we offer our closeness to all of them, with the confidence of faith in the Lord, who is our light and our hope.

____________

In recent days, Spain has been shaken by a series of serious railway accidents occurring in different parts of the country, leaving multiple fatalities and injuries and prompting a nationwide moment of mourning. The incidents, involving passenger trains on both regional and long-distance routes, have raised urgent questions about rail safety, infrastructure maintenance, and emergency response protocols. Authorities have opened investigations to determine the causes—ranging from possible technical failures to signaling or human error—while rescue teams and medical services worked intensively at the crash sites. As the country absorbs the shock of these tragedies, public attention has turned not only to accountability and prevention, but also to solidarity with the victims and their families, who now face sudden and profound loss.
