Pope Leo XIV invites Catholics worldwide to pray for respect for human life, urging dignity, protection, and care from conception to natural death.

Newsroom (03/07/2026 Gaudium Press ) Pope Leo XIV has called on Catholics around the world to unite in prayer throughout July for greater respect for human life, emphasizing the inherent dignity and value of every person from the beginning of existence to life’s natural end.

The appeal was delivered through the latest installment of the monthly Pray with the Pope video, produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network. In his message, the pontiff reflected on the belief that every human being is created in love and called by God to live life in its fullness.

Addressing the faithful, Pope Leo said that each person is “a sacred gift” who reflects the face of God. Stressing the unique worth of every individual, he noted that this dignity extends “from the first instant of existence to the final breath of their journey on earth.”

The Pope’s July prayer intention centers on a renewed commitment to recognizing and safeguarding the value of every human life. “Today, we ask for the grace to recognize and protect the unique and unrepeatable value of every human being,” he said.

A Call to Welcome and Protect Life

Throughout his prayer, Pope Leo urged believers to embrace life without conditions and to respond compassionately to those who are vulnerable. He expressed a desire that people learn to “welcome life unconditionally,” while providing care for those experiencing fragility and accompanying every stage of life with respect and dignity.

The pontiff also highlighted the importance of defending those who are unable to speak for themselves, calling on Catholics to act courageously on behalf of the voiceless.

At the same time, he acknowledged the challenges posed by what he described as indifference and a “culture of discard.” Asking for God’s forgiveness, he reflected on moments when people fail to recognize the dignity and worth of others.

“Give us a new heart, always ready to choose life,” Pope Leo prayed, adding a request for “generous hands” willing to protect life through concrete actions rather than words alone.

The Church as a Witness to the Gospel of Life

Pope Leo also turned his attention to the mission of the Church, praying that it may become a visible and living witness to the Gospel of life. He envisioned a Church that serves as an open and welcoming home, where every person is valued and no one feels rejected or unwanted.

In his prayer, he asked that dignity always be honored and protected, stressing that communities of faith should celebrate every life and foster an environment of inclusion and care.

Concluding his message, the Pope appealed to Jesus for guidance in loving human life with “tenderness, fidelity, and self-giving.” He encouraged believers to demonstrate through both words and actions that every human life possesses immeasurable value and deserves complete dedication and respect.

“May we proclaim, in words and actions, that every human life is worth the total gift of ourselves,” he said.

The Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network

The monthly prayer intention is coordinated through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, a Pontifical Work entrusted to the Society of Jesus. Originally founded in 1844 as the Apostleship of Prayer, the organization serves as a global spiritual movement centered on the Pope’s intentions and the Church’s mission.

In December 2020, Pope Francis established the initiative as a Vatican Foundation, and its final statutes received approval in July 2024.

Today, the network operates in more than 92 countries and brings together a spiritual community of over 22 million people. Members are encouraged to align their daily lives and prayers with God’s mission, while focusing on the monthly intentions proposed by the Pope.

These intentions address major challenges facing humanity and the Church, providing the faithful with a shared focus for prayer and reflection. Through the July intention, Pope Leo XIV is inviting Catholics worldwide to place the dignity and protection of every human life at the center of their spiritual commitment.
