Colombia marks May 13 with a national rosary, Mass, and consecration to Mary, seeking peace and reconciliation through faith and unity.

Newsroom (11/05/2026 Gaudium Press )  Colombia will observe a national day of prayer on Wednesday, May 13, coinciding with the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, culminating in the consecration of the country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The initiative forms part of the IV National Rosary and will be presided over by Archbishop Francisco Javier Múnera Correa, president of the Colombian Episcopal Conference.

Promoted by Catholic lay groups with the support of the Episcopal Conference and the Archdiocese of Bogotá, the event is organized under the motto “Peace and Reconciliation in Colombia are built from the conversion of your heart.” Organizers aim to unite Colombians both within the country and abroad around a shared intention: fostering peace and national reconciliation through personal spiritual renewal.

Two central events in Bogotá

The day’s activities will unfold in two main moments in the capital. The first begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Primatial Cathedral of Colombia in Bogotá, where the Holy Rosary will be recited under the leadership of Monsignor Sergio Pulido, parish priest and archbishop’s delegate of the Metropolitan Basilica. This will be followed by Holy Mass and the formal consecration of Colombia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, presided over by Archbishop Múnera Correa. The ceremony will be broadcast on RCN and other national and digital media platforms.

The second part of the observance will take place at 5:00 p.m. in Bolívar Square. It will include Eucharistic Adoration, a procession, and a torchlight Rosary, accompanied by a replica of Our Lady of Fatima brought from the Portuguese sanctuary. Musical performances by Catholic artists Felipe Gómez, Fruto del Madero, and Héctor Tobo will accompany the evening program.

A call to unity and spiritual renewal

Archbishop Múnera Correa underscored the spiritual significance of the event, inviting Colombians nationwide to participate. He encouraged the faithful to “join us on May 13th for the great act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary,” adding that the gathering seeks to rekindle hope, strengthen unity, and promote reconciliation across the country.

Father Daniel Bustamante Goyeneche, parish priest of Saint Peter the Apostle and a leading figure behind the One Million Rosaries for Colombia initiative, emphasized the deeper spiritual dimension of the day. “We are living through a spiritual battle, and the most powerful weapon is the Holy Rosary, which heals the heart and brings peace,” he said, stressing that lasting peace depends on sincere personal conversion.

A growing national movement

Now in its fourth edition, the National Rosary has become an increasingly significant spiritual movement in Colombia. The Episcopal Conference has called on dioceses, parishes, religious communities, ecclesial movements, and families to participate from their respective locations, reinforcing a unified call for peace.

The choice of May 13 is tied to the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Fatima in 1917, whose central message emphasized prayer of the Rosary for world peace. Organizers view this message as particularly relevant to Colombia’s current context, framing the national day of prayer as both a spiritual appeal and a collective act of hope.
