Newsroom (08/16/2023 10:30 AM, Gaudium Press): There was no traditional General Audience this Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the Vatican due to the proximity of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady, celebrated in Rome yesterday, in which Pope Francis presided over the Angelus prayer from the window of the Apostolic Palace. However, here in Brazil, this solemnity was moved to the next Sunday.
Francis is preparing for his upcoming trip to Mongolia – a country bordering Russia to the north and China to the south – which will take place from August 31 to September 4.
The Pontiff will visit this nation with over 3 million inhabitants, of which only 1,300 are Catholics, representing merely 2% of the population.
In previous years, Popes used to move to the Pontifical Palace of Castel Gandolfo during the summer, especially due to the high temperatures in Rome during the month of August. However, Pope Francis chose to remain in the Vatican.
