Vatican City (Monday, 10/06/2014, Gaudium Press) At the opening of the Synod of Bishops at the Vatican, on Monday morning, October 6, the Holy Father told the Synod Fathers: “speak boldly (with parrhesia) and listen with humility.”
In his brief introductory speech, the Pope said “A general condition is this, speak clearly. Let no one say: ‘This you cannot say.'”.
The Pontiff went on to say that “at the same time, you should listen with humility and accept with an open heart what your brothers say”.
Concluding his speech, the Pope asked the Synod Fathers to “act as brothers in the Lord,” speaking fearlessly and humbly listening to each other. “Do it with tranquillity and peace because the Synod always performs ‘cum Petro and sub ??Petro’ and the Pope’s presence is a guarantee for all and a protection of the Faith” he added.
