Editorial Staff (19/05/2025 11:10, Gaudium Press) Pope Leo XIV has appointed Cardinal Baldassare Reina, Vicar of Rome, as Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences. The cardinal succeeds Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, who celebrated his 80th birthday on April 21.
Sections on Four Continents
The Institute was founded by the Apostolic Letter in the form of a motu proprio by Pope Francis, Summa familiae cura, on September 8, 2017; on July 11, 2019, the then-Congregation for Catholic Education approved its statutes and Study Plan.
The Theological Institute has a central headquarters in Rome and seven sections abroad: in the United States (Washington, D.C.), Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey), Spain (with two separate locations, one in Valencia and another in Madrid), Brazil (Salvador da Bahia), Benin (Cotonou), India (Changanacherry, Kerala), and associated centers in Lebanon (Beirut), the Philippines (Bacolod), and the Dominican Republic (Santo Domingo).
Center for Higher Education
The Institute collaborates with the Dicastery for the Laity, Family, and Life to promote a common orientation in studies on marriage, family, and life, especially through training courses and opportunities for exchange with the worldwide network of family movements.
