On Divine Mercy Sunday, the bishops of Cameroon once again consecrated the country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Newsroom (26/04/2022 7:15 PM, Gaudium Press) Last Sunday, April 24, Divine Mercy Sunday, the bishops of Cameroon, together with thousands of faithful, consecrated the country once again to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Night pilgrimage to the Marian shrine
After the night pilgrimage organized by the bishops to the Marian shrine of Marienberg, the prelates consecrated the country to the Virgin Mary.
The Marian shrine of Marienberg is located in an isolated region on the outskirts of Edea, a coastal region of Cameroon.
The pilgrimage began on Saturday, April 23 and was attended by delegations from various dioceses.
Day of prayer and meditation
Saturday afternoon was marked by the recitation of the Holy Rosary, confessions, meditation and spiritual recollection.
In the early evening, the night prayer vigil began, which lasted until the following day, in time for the faithful to prepare the procession for Sunday Mass.
Pope Francis also recalled the pilgrimage and consecration of Cameroon during Sunday’s Regina Coeli: “The bishops and faithful of Cameroon today make a pilgrimage to consecrate their nation anew to the Mother of God and entrust it to Her protection,” he explained.
Violence and war
For the past five years, the African country has been shaken by violence and insecurity resulting from armed conflicts—namely, the civil war between the government and the Anglophone minority.
The fighting against the Boko Haram terrorists has also claimed around 3,000 lives and caused thousands more to flee.
Ethnically motivated conflicts against Chad have also caused insecurity and the exodus of thousands of people. (FM)
