Spain will build the world’s largest Sacred Heart statue in Boadilla del Monte by 2030, blending devotion, technology, and charity.

Newsroom, July 7 2025, Gaudium Press – The 37‑metre‑high, 60‑metre‑wide image of the Sacred Heart will be erected in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid), with the inauguration scheduled for 2030.

Madrid – Spain (04/07/2025 16:26, Gaudium Press) The Boadilla Association of Devotees of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, together with the Via del Arte Foundation, have unveiled an ambitious project: to build the world’s largest monument dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Spain.

Inauguration scheduled for 2030

The 37‑metre‑high, 60‑metre‑wide image will be erected in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid), with inauguration planned for 2030. Though originally proposed as a secular initiative, the project now enjoys support from ecclesiastical and civic authorities. The total budget is €17 million, of which €104,000 has already been donated by more than 500 people through a fundraising campaign.

The project’s dual objectives are to foster devotion to the Heart of Christ and to channel that spirituality into specific charitable works. According to the promoters, 10% of funds raised for the image will be donated to social programs administered by Caritas and other organisations.

Visitors will be able to touch Christ’s heart

Integrating technology and symbolism, the monument will include a 2.5‑metre‑diameter heart-shaped tabernacle, reproducing Christ’s wounds from the Holy Shroud, allowing natural light to pass through. Every morning, the heart inside will descend so visitors can touch it, while a symbolic heartbeat will be heard within.

Three phases of construction

  1. Phase 1 (underway until Feb 2026): preliminary design and communication campaign.

  2. Phase 2 (2026–2028): architectural development and licensing.

  3. Phase 3 (Aug 2028–Jun 2030): monument construction, with inauguration set for 27 June 2030. (EPC)
