New Vatican Post Office opened in St. Peter’s Square

The venue has been prepared to welcome the faithful, pilgrims, citizens and visitors, offering a space dedicated to stamp collectors, as well as traditional postal services.

Newsroom (20/12/2024 16:50, Gaudium Press) To offer pilgrims and visitors exclusive postal and philatelic products, the Vatican has inaugurated a new post office in St. Peter’s Square. In this new mobile station of the Vatican Post Office, which is already in operation, it is possible to “send, receive, find and let yourself be found by God’s announcements”.

Director General of the Italian Post Office was present at the inauguration

The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday, December 19, and was attended by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, president of the Vatican City State Governorate; Giuseppe Lasco, director general of the Italian Post Office; and Sister Raffaella Petrini, secretary general of the Governorate.

Also present were the deputy secretary general, Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi; the directors of the Infrastructures and Services directorate, Salvatore Farina; the Telecommunications and Computer Systems Directorate, Antonino Intersimone; the deputy director, Luigi Salimbeni; and the Orionine, Father Felice Bruno, head of the Servizio Poste e filatelia office.

A place dedicated to philately and traditional postal services

After blessing the new office, Cardinal Vérgez sprinkled it with holy water and affixed a crucifix to the wall. Soon afterward, the Cardinal and Director Lasco signed the donation act from the Italian Post Office. In his speech, the Cardinal entrusted those who will use the office to Our Lady.

The new office has three service desks, a polygonal shape with 16 glass walls, and is made of materials with a low environmental impact, such as wood and glass. The place has been prepared to welcome the faithful, pilgrims, citizens, and visitors, offering a space dedicated to philately, as well as traditional postal services. (EPC)
