Pope Leo XIV will meet the Italian Episcopal Conference on June 17, followed by the 80th Extraordinary General Assembly to discuss key ecclesiastical matters.
Newsroom, May 26, 2025, Gaudium Press – On June 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM Rome time, Pope Leo XIV will receive the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) in a special audience at the Paul VI Hall in the Vatican. This meeting underscores the deep and affectionate bond between the Italian bishops and the Successor of Peter, as emphasized by CEI Secretary-General, Archbishop Giuseppe Baturi.
Following the papal audience, the 80th Extraordinary General Assembly of the CEI will convene to address statutory matters outlined in the organization’s internal regulations.
Additionally, on May 27, from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM Rome time, an extraordinary session of the Permanent Episcopal Council will be held at the CEI headquarters on Via Circonvallazione Aurelia 50 in Rome. Presided over by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and President of the CEI, the session will present upcoming stages of the Synodal Path in preparation for the Third Synodal Assembly. The Council will also approve the message for the 75th National Day of Thanksgiving, scheduled for November 9.
