Pope Leo encourages everyone following the 12th Latin American Congress on Science and Religion to look for paths that enable humanity to “to rise above all things that can be measured”.
Newsroom (11/09/2025, Gaudium Press ) Pope Leo XIV has called on scientists, theologians, and philosophers to seek a path for humanity that transcends empirical measurement to find enduring hope in both prosperity and adversity.
The Pope’s message, delivered in a letter signed by the Vatican Secretary of State, was addressed to participants of the 12th Latin American Congress on Science and Religion. The event, hosted by Rome’s Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, runs from September 10-12.
Under the Congress theme, “The Languages of Creation: The Scientific, Philosophical, and Theological Hermeneutics of the ‘Book of Nature’ as a Path of Hope,” the Pontiff urged a collective effort to help humanity “rise above all things that can be measured, in order to behold the measure beyond measure.”
Citing St. Augustine, the Pope asserted that this ascent allows God’s creation to proclaim divine glory without words. He emphasized that such a focus would enable all people to hear a message of hope “not only in the brilliance of life’s clear days, but also in the dark nights of anguish and tribulation.”
Concluding the letter, the Holy Father invoked the Virgin Mary and prayed that the Lord would sustain the Congress’s work. He imparted his Apostolic Blessing upon the organizers and attendees.
