Newsroom (22/05/2025 21:54, Gaudium Press) The Augustinian communities of Cascia are promoting various events in preparation for the Feast of St. Rita, which is celebrated on May 22.
This year there was an exceptional event, the opening of the nuns’ cloister during the Novena of the patron saint, which took place from May 12 to 20. Throughout this period, the faithful could follow the recitation of the Holy Rosary virtually in the monastery choir.
Women of Rita” awards ceremony
On Wednesday, May 21, there will be an award ceremony for the “Women of Rita”, an award created in 1988 by the religious, the Augustinian priests, and the municipal administration, which recognizes women from different countries and religions who embody the values that are at the root of the message of Saint Rita of Cascia.
During this event, the Abbess will give a speech and then there will be the Solemn Transit of St. Rita. In the evening, the faithful will welcome the Torch of Peace and Forgiveness, officially beginning the 2025 celebrations.

On May 22, the date on which the Catholic liturgy celebrates the memory of the Saint of the Impossible, a historic procession is scheduled from Roccaporena to Cascia, starting at 10:30 a.m. (local time).
Then, at 11 a.m., the religious and faithful will gather in prayer to take part in a Solemn Holy Mass presided over by Cardinal Reina Baldassare, Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome. At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, there will be a supplication to Saint Rita in the Basilica churchyard and the long-awaited moment of the Blessing of the Roses. (EPC)
