The call is to pray “for the blessed souls in purgatory, that they may intercede for the conversion of each country.”

Newsroom(11/03/2025 12:00, Gaudium Press On Sunday, November 2, All Souls’ Day, at 7:00 p.m. (local time in each country), evangelizers and digital missionaries, Catholic media, and influencers called on the faithful in all countries to pray the Rosary for the blessed souls in purgatory.

The initiative’s slogan was “One time. One prayer. One intention,“ ”We pray for the blessed souls in purgatory, that they may intercede for the conversion of each country,” and aimed to reach one million people praying one million Rosaries.

In addition, to make the gesture concrete and measurable, an online counter will be set up, where each person can register the recitation of the Rosary, either individually or in community.

In conversation with EWTN News, Fr. Daniel Bustamante of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, Colombia, promoter of the initiative, explained that, although “any time is a good time to pray for the blessed souls,” the Church “especially during the month of November, invites us to offer suffrages and prayers for the eternal rest of the blessed souls.”

“They are called blessed souls because they are already in eternal life and are in a moment, in a space, where if during earthly life we did not atone for all our sins, purgatory is a place of God’s mercy, where we can purify ourselves of those sins we have committed here on earth during our earthly life and which we finish purifying in purgatory,” he explained.

“The book of Revelation says that nothing impure can enter the Kingdom of Heaven,” the priest recalled.

The weapon for our sanctification

Explaining why the Holy Rosary was chosen as the prayer, Fr. Bustamante emphasized that it is “the weapon for our sanctification and for defeating the devil.” Quoting St. Paul in his Letter to the Ephesians, he pointed out that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spirits of evil.” Therefore, he said, “every time we pray the Rosary, we are crushing the head of the devil.”

In this sense, he added that the Rosary is a prayer of intercession. “That is why this campaign wants to invite all believers to pray the Holy Rosary, asking for the purification of the blessed souls in purgatory. The Holy Rosary is a wonderful weapon,” he summarized.

A saved soul becomes an intercessor

Regarding the initiative, Fruto del Madero leader Tomás Romero assured EWTN News that “there is no soul as grateful as one that is saved from purgatory, which becomes an intercessor for the rest of our lives.”

The young man emphasized that this invitation, beyond being promoted by different groups or digital missions, “does not depend on a cell phone, but rather on each person who wants to pray the rosary, in parishes, in families.”

The idea of adding a counter to record the actual number of rosaries was implemented by Oremos por Colombia.

“In the end, we will see how many people, how many rosaries we manage to pray for the blessed souls in purgatory, so that they may intercede for each country and continue to support us,” said Tomás.

Praying for forgotten souls

“I would like to invite all those who are watching us to become aware of the need to pray. The world we live in needs God. And how wonderful that this month of November we take up our rosaries, raise them up, and entrust to the Lord not only the peace of the whole world, which we so badly need, but also become aware of the need to pray for the blessed souls in purgatory, especially those for whom no one prays, those who are forgotten,” said Fr. Bustamante.

“The Holy Rosary is a weapon of intercession. And how good it is that we pray many rosaries to bring souls out of purgatory, so that when they reach heaven they may intercede for us, for our salvation and for peace throughout the world,” he concluded.
