Sometimes God will send tribulations or afflictions into our lives. if we reject them without knowing the good they can do for us, we may be wasting a beneficial action from God.
Newsdesk (03/12/2025 10:07, Gaudium Press) “It is good to go through afflictions and setbacks from time to time, for they make man reflect, reminding him that he lives in exile and therefore should not place all his hope in anything of this world.
It is good to sometimes encounter opposition, and for others to form a bad or unfavourable opinion of us, even when our works and intentions are good. This usually leads us to humility and preserves us from vainglory. For we will more quickly have recourse to the inner witness of God when we find ourselves vilified and discredited by men on the outside.
For this reason, man should rely so firmly on God that he no longer needs to beg for consolation from creatures. As soon as a man of good will is troubled or tempted, or harassed by evil thoughts, he immediately feels the need he has for God, without whom he can do no good. Then he becomes sorrowful, groans, and weeps over the miseries he suffers … And he understands that in this world there can be neither perfect security nor complete peace.” (Chapter 12, Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ.)
