A mosaic of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá will soon be in the Pope’s garden, purchased by the Dominican Fathers and manufactured in the Italian city of Verona.
Newsdesk (05/07/2021 18:20, Gaudium Press) Next Friday, 9 July, a replica of the statue of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá, Patroness of Colombia, will be enthroned in the Vatican Gardens on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of her canonical coronation.
Civil and ecclesiastical authorities present
This special ceremony will be attended by the President of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican City State and President of the Vatican City Government, Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello; the Undersecretary of the Third Section of the Secretariat of State, Monsignor Mauricio Rueda Beltz; and the Colombian Ambassador to the Holy See, Jorge Mario Eastman Robledo.
Also in attendance at the event will be the Master of the Order of Preachers throughout the world, Friar Gerard Francisco Timoner; the Provincial Prior of the Dominican Friars in Colombia, Friar Diego Orlando Serna Salazar; and the Rector of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, Friar Carlos Mario Alzate Montes.
Patron Saint of European and Latin American countries
The miraculous image of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá will join the beautiful list of Marian images already present in these gardens: Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, Patroness of Portugal; Our Lady of Lourdes; Our Lady of Quinche, Patroness of Ecuador; Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of Mexico; Our Lady of Aparecida, Patroness of Brazil; Our Lady of Luján, Patroness of Argentina; and most recently, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Patroness of Chile.
The image of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá is to be enthroned as a symbol, “…that calls us to work in communion for well-being and social justice” in times of crisis, say the Dominican priests.

The enthronement of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá at the Vatican will also be “…an opportunity to continue spreading the love for our beloved Lady of the Rosary and to invite devotees and tourists from all latitudes to visit our country, especially Chiquinquirá: a place where the fabric and common home of all Colombians have been miraculously renewed”.
The image of Our Lady that will now reside in the Pope’s garden is also, like the recently enthroned image of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a mosaic; it was purchased by the Dominican Fathers and made in the Italian city of Verona. This beautiful image was formed according to the traditional technique of ‘micro mosaic’ in the workshop of Albano Poli, whose other works also decorate the gardens. (EPC)
