Newsroom (06/07/2024 09:16, Gaudium Press) St. Colman of Dromore, abbot and bishop was born in Ireland around the year 450.
He is a fruit of St. Patrick’s apostolate, having studied in Noendrum, on Mahee Island, under the guidance of St. Caelan, who was one of the first disciples of the great St. Patrick.
Wishing to perfect his knowledge of Sacred Scripture, he went to the important school of Emly around the year 470 or 475, where he stayed for several years. He later returned to the school on Mahee Island. By then, he was already serving as an assistant at the island’s school, always under the mentorship of his teacher, St. Caelan.
Tradition holds that he performed many miracles there. He founded and served as the first bishop of the See of Dromore, of which he is the patron saint.
A disciple of saints, he was also a teacher of saints. Among his many students—already into the 6th century—was St. Finnian of Moville.
