Ecclesia Cantic brings together young people aged 18 to 35 who aim to support the quality of liturgical singing and the beauty of celebrations in dioceses, parishes, and ecclesiastical movements.
Newsroom (17/05/2023 15:04, Gaudium Press) In Toulouse, France, some 500 young people gathered on May 6, 7, and 8 for the Ecclesia Cantic 2023 meeting, whose mission is to support the quality of liturgical singing and the beauty of celebrations in dioceses, parishes, and ecclesial movements.
Ecclesia Cantic takes place every 18 months, to improve liturgical singing. The event has already had four editions, Grenoble in 2016, Paris in 2018, Angers in 2019, Lyon in 2021, and Lille in 2022.
This meeting encourages participants to “deepen the repertoire of polyphonic chant to better serve the liturgy,” explains Marion Pontier, in charge of the Toulouse edition. “The idea is to promote beautiful Masses, showing how the different chants are composed to accompany specific moments of the liturgy – offertory, communion, etc. – but also to discover young talents.” It is an opportunity to “lead to God through beauty.”
At Ecclesia Cantic, participants were able to attend lectures, technical and spiritual workshops, animation of the faithful, and composition. Choirs were also sent to the city center to bring the joy of the Gospel to the people. There was also a large concert open to the general public. On Sunday, the participants were divided into choirs to animate the Sunday Masses.
