Cristo é o Show 2026 gathers 80,000 in Belo Horizonte for prayer, music, and testimony, highlighting Brazil’s vibrant Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

Newsroom (11/05/2026 Gaudium Press ) Last Sunday, Belo Horizonte became the epicenter of Brazilian Catholic devotion as approximately 80,000 faithful filled Mineirão Stadium for “Cristo é o Show” 2026, one of the country’s most significant religious events. The gathering, marked by hours of music, prayer, and testimony, culminated in a powerful address by Frei Gilson, a priest of the Carmelite Messengers of the Holy Spirit and a widely followed figure on social media for his prayer initiatives.

The event, whose name translates to “Christ is the Show,” reflects the vitality of Brazil’s Catholic Charismatic Renewal, often described as a vast and diverse “archipelago” within the Church. What began 35 years ago as a modest initiative has evolved into a national phenomenon. Founded through collaboration between the Mundo Novo association and the Canção Nova community, the event was initially conceived as a tool for evangelization and a means to support social programs, including assistance for impoverished families and drug rehabilitation efforts in Minas Gerais.

Its creator, Eros Biondini—a veterinarian by training and a prominent figure in Christian music and Brazilian politics—has witnessed its transformation from a small school-hosted gathering into a large-scale religious spectacle. This year’s edition unfolded over nine hours, beginning at 1:00 PM and concluding at 10:00 PM, blending musical performances with spiritual reflection.

Auxiliary Bishop Júlio César Gomes Moreira of Belo Horizonte addressed the crowd with a message emphasizing spiritual longing and the role of the Church. “The people thirst for God, and the Lord thirsts for your love, your faith,” he said, urging attendees to reconnect with a Church that “flows from the heart of Christ” and offers “living water” to those in search of meaning.

The program featured a wide array of influential figures in contemporary Catholic evangelization. Among them was Father Jairo López Ramírez, a Colombian priest known for facilitating the release of kidnapping victims and for his therapeutic work with families in crisis. The event also showcased leading voices in Christian music, including Celina Borges, Eliana Ribeiro, Carlos Eduardo, Flávio Victor, Tony Allysson, and the duo Ramon and Rafael.

One of the more distinctive participants was Juninho Chu, a Korean-born artist who converted to Catholicism during military service in South Korea and rose to prominence in Brazil after a widely shared 2023 performance of the song “Eu te levantarei.” His presence underscored the international and multicultural dimensions of contemporary Catholic evangelization.

Other notable participants included pediatrician and lay preacher Filomena Camilo do Vale, known as Dra. Filó; Father Chrystian Shankar, recognized for integrating spirituality and psychology in his talks; and Moisés Rocha, founder of the Comunidade Filhos de João Batista. Political and religious intersections were also evident, with appearances by Eros Biondini and Cláudio Castro, governor of Rio de Janeiro and a Christian singer.

The event’s liturgical centerpiece was a Mass celebrated by Walmor Oliveira de Azevedo, Archbishop of Belo Horizonte, reinforcing the ecclesial foundation of a gathering otherwise characterized by its dynamic blend of worship styles.

As the evening drew to a close, Frei Gilson’s declaration resonated across the stadium, encapsulating the spirit of the event: a collective expression of faith rooted in community, music, and prayer.
