The 55‑tonne Vox Patris bell, cast in Poland, tolled in Trindade to open Brazil’s Festa do Divino Pai Eterno—symbol of faith and unity.

Newsroom, July 18, 2025, Gaudium Press – It was cast in Kraków, Poland: the ‘Vox Patris’ bell stands 4 m tall and weighs 55 tonnes.

Trindade – Goiânia (June 27, 2025 16:15, Gaudium Press) Last Thursday, June 26, the ‘Vox Patris’, recognized as the world’s largest bell, tolled for the first time in Trindade, in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, marking the start of the Festa do Divino Pai Eterno. Prior to the chime, the bell was blessed during a Holy Baptism Mass celebrated by Bishop José Roberto, auxiliary bishop of Goiânia.

According to Father Marco Aurélio Martins, rector of the Sanctuary Basilica of the Divine Eternal Father, this bell is a symbol of faith, tradition and unity. The priest explained that hearing the first toll was a calling—it stirred the soul and reminded all of the greater purpose: to serve with faith and love. For him, the resonance marked the beginning of moments of grace and spiritual renewal.

One of Brazil’s three largest Catholic festivals

The bell will toll daily during the Romaria do Divino Pai Eterno, beginning Friday, June 27 and continuing until July 6. This annual pilgrimage is considered one of Brazil’s three largest Catholic festivals. Organizers expect approximately four million attendees this year.

Manufactured in Kraków, Poland, the world’s largest bell arrived in Trindade on June 1 after a 10,000 km, forty-day journey. The casting took seven years, and the sea route to the port of Santos was followed by transport via truck to Trindade.

Dimensions of the ‘Vox Patris’
Weighing 55 tonnes and measuring 4 m in height with a 4.5 m diameter, the ‘Vox Patris’ is made of a special bronze alloy composed of 78% copper and 22% tin. It is accompanied by two smaller bells named São João and São Lucas. Its sound reaches around 120 decibels, audible over 10 km. The piece was designed by Brazilian artist Silvio Morais.

Costing approximately R$ 17 million, the ‘Vox Patris’ (“Voice of the Father” in Latin) features exterior reliefs narrating the story of devotion to the Divine Eternal Father—from the discovery of the Holy Trinity medallion by a farming couple in 1840 to the construction of the new Sanctuary Basilica of the Divine Eternal Father today.
