Faced with this imposition, three members of the Swiss Guard, who had sworn to serve Pope Francis faithfully, resigned.

Newsroom (05/10/2021 12:26 PM, Gaudium Press) The Swiss newspaper ‘Tribune de Genève’ reports that three members of the pontifical guard have resigned from their posts at the Vatican to escape the mandatory Covid-19 vaccination requirement.

According to papal guard spokesman Urs Breitenmoser, all the guards have been asked to get the Covid-19 vaccine to protect their own health and that of other people they encounter during their service.

Mandatory vaccination

On October 1, a Vatican regulation required all city-state employees to be vaccinated or test negative for coronavirus. In the specific case of the Swiss Guard, who has close contact with the Pope and his guests, the Vatican preferred to impose mandatory vaccination since tests do not detect recent infections.

Six Swiss Guards dismissed
