Just two hours after greeting the crowds in St. Peter’s Basilica, the new Pope’s next engagements were announced.

Newsdesk (09/05/2025 08:08, Gaudium Press) The Vatican Press Office has provided the schedule of the new Pope’s next engagements. On the 9th May, at 11 am, he will celebrate a Mass with the cardinals in the Sistine Chapel. It will be broadcast live on Vatican media channels.

Then, on Sunday, May 11, at noon, the new Bishop of Rome will recite the Regina Coeli prayer in the central Loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica.

On Monday, May 12, at 10 a.m., Pope Leo XIV will meet in the Paul VI Hall with all the media personnel accredited to the Holy See who have covered the events of recent weeks. Since the death and burial of Pope Francis, some 5,000 journalists from around the world have been in Rome.

In his first speech, the new pontiff used “words of peace, disarmed and disarming” and emphasized the importance of dialogue, said Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office. The choice of the name is a clear reference to the Church’s social doctrine.

Press Conference

At a press conference, Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, commented on the new pontiff’s first speech: “Pope Leo XIV used the first words of Jesus after Easter, words of peace, disarmament and disarmament” and spoke of “dialogue”. Bruni highlighted the importance and timeliness of the name chosen by the new Pope: “it is a clear reference” to his predecessor Leo XIII, who in May 1891 published the encyclical Rerum novarum , from which the modern social doctrine of the Church originated. “Clearly, it is a non-random reference to men and women, to their work, even in times of Artificial Intelligence”, Bruni pointed out.

He also added how the new pontiff spoke of “dialogue,” in a world often touched by conflict and tension. “God loves us, he loves all of you, and evil will not prevail.”
