The tabernacle of the parish church of Saint Mary at the Monastery of La Santa Espina, in Castromonte, was violated, as announced by the Archdiocese of Valladolid in an official statement.
Newsroom (30-12-2025, 11:37 AM) Gaudium Press – The incident took place on Sunday, December 28, when unidentified individuals entered the church, forced open the tabernacle, and removed the consecrated Hosts kept inside. The desecration came to light when local residents noticed that the church door was open, even though it had been locked following a guided visit earlier that day. The Sacrilege was denounced by the Archdiocese of Valladolid in an official statement.
An offense of the gravest kind
The archdiocese emphasized that the incident, already reported to civil authorities, represents “an offense of exceptional seriousness against the Lord and against the Catholic Church,” recalling that the Blessed Sacrament is the true and real presence of Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine, transformed into His Body and Blood through the consecration.
For this reason, the faithful have been urged to offer prayers of reparation for this sacrilegious act and to remain vigilant in safeguarding both the celebration of the Eucharist and the reverent reservation of the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle.
In response, the Archbishop of Valladolid, Luis Argüello, will lead a public act of reparation to atone for the offense committed against the Eucharist. This ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 3, at 6:00 p.m., local time, in the same parish church where the desecration occurred.
This episode marks the second profanation within the diocese in the past year. The previous incident occurred on March 14 at the Church of Our Lady of La Vega, in the municipality of Arroyo de la Encomienda.
