Philippines – Cebu (11/04/2022 15:50, Gaudium Press) Earlier this week, a replica of the Little Chapel of the Apparitions of Fatima was opened in the Philippines. The chapel, located about 91 kilometers northwest of Cebu City, is the first replica of the Little Chapel in Asia and the fourth outside Portugal. The other three replicas are in Brazil, Puerto Rico and the United States.
Relics of the Little Shepherds of Fatima
The blessing and consecration ceremony of the chapel was presided over by Archbishop Jose Palma of Cebu and was attended by several Bishops and priests, including Father Francisco Pereira, chaplain of the Fatima Shrine in Portugal.
More than eight thousand faithful devotees and pilgrims attended the ceremony, during which the relics of the two little shepherds of Fatima: Jacinta and Francisco Marto, were placed on the altar of the chapel.
500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines
The pilgrimage site has the same structural features as in Portugal, such as Stations of the Way of the Cross, the image of the Angel of Peace from Portugal, a replica of the “Sítio dos Valinhos” where Our Lady first appeared, a rosary garden, and a belvedere.
The implementation of the official replicas of the Chapel of the Apparition needs the approval of the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal. The Archdiocese of Cebu started the construction of the replica of the Little Chapel of Fatima in late 2020 as part of the celebration for the 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines. (EPC)
