Pope Leo XIV assures Dominicans taking part in the General Chapter to be attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and to strengthen their commitment to serving the Body of Christ.
Newsroom (24/07/2025, Gaudium Press )Pope Leo XIV has expressed his spiritual solidarity with the Dominican provincial priors gathered in Krakow for their General Chapter, assuring them of his prayers and urging them to remain attentive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their mission to proclaim the Gospel.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to Fr. Gerard Timoner, Master of the Order of Preachers, the Holy Father voiced confidence that the assembly would serve as “an opportunity for renewal, rooted in the hope that never disappoints and the knowledge that the Lord has called you as preachers to proclaim the Good News amid today’s unique challenges.”
A Call to Listen to the Holy Spirit
The Pope highlighted the meeting’s theme, which focuses on the Dominican charism of preaching to four key audiences: those yet to encounter Jesus, the Christian faithful, those who have drifted from Christ, and young people navigating these realities. Describing the theme as particularly timely, he prayed that the priors’ deliberations would be guided by the Holy Spirit, “Who continues to guide the Church in the fullness of truth.”
Fidelity to St. Dominic’s Legacy
Pope Leo encouraged the priors to deepen their commitment to serving the Body of Christ in the evangelical spirit of St. Dominic, the founder of the Order of Preachers. “May your shared experience of fraternity and prayer strengthen the bonds of communion that unite you as Dominicans and inspire you to live ever more fully your vocation as contemplative preachers,” he wrote.
The Holy Father expressed trust that the Dominicans would continue their mission “in the heart of the Church,” remaining faithful to the charism and spirituality of their founder.
A Blessing for the Order
Concluding his message, Pope Leo entrusted the General Chapter to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and imparted his apostolic blessing to all members of the Dominican Order, reinforcing his spiritual support for their work.
The General Chapter, a significant gathering for the Dominican Order, provides an opportunity for reflection and strategic planning as the priors address contemporary challenges in their preaching mission.
