Amidst rumours of breathing and heart difficulties of the Pontiff, the Vatican Press Office announced that these are previously scheduled procedures. The audiences for the next two days have been cancelled.
Newsroom (29/03/2022 2:05 PM, Gaudium Press) Pope Francis has been taken by ambulance to the Agostino Gemelli Hospital.
Following the general audience on Wednesday, March 29, the Pontiff returned to Casa Santa Marta and then cancelled an interview he was supposed to give to the program A Sua Immagine.
He was then taken to the Gemelli Hospital, where on June 4, 2021, he underwent surgery and had a piece of his colon removed.
Since then, Francis has used a wheelchair intermittently due to walking difficulties related to injuries to his right knee.
Some media outlets have reported breathing and heart difficulties for the 86-year-old Pontiff, but the Vatican Press Office director Matteo Bruni said these are “some previously scheduled checks.”
According to some sources, however, the routine exams performed at the Gemelli reported the Pontiff’s health condition as “not worrying.”
The same sources state that the Pope could spend a few days in the hospital. Meanwhile, the Pontiff’s close aides have been summoned and are ready to spend the night at the Gemelli.
