The Apostolic Nunciature in France announced that Pope Francis has ordered an apostolic visit to the French city of Strasbourg.

Newsdesk (26/06/2022 2:00 PM, Gaudium Press) Pope Francis has ordered an Apostolic Visit to the Archdiocese of Strasbourg, according to a statement from the Apostolic Nunciature in France.
The visit was ordered by the Dicastery for Bishops in order to investigate the pastoral government of the archdiocese. The visit will begin on June 27th.
The apostolic envoy will be Monsignor Stanislas Lalanne, Bishop of Pontoise, and Monsignor Joel Mercier, secretary emeritus of the Dicastery for Bishops, will be the assistant for the visit.
The nunciature’s document states that the visit represents the “expression of Pope Francis’ solicitude for the particular Church of Strasbourg.”
Archbishop Luc Ravel, Archbishop of Strasbourg
Archbishop Luc Ravel, Archbishop of Strasbourg and former army bishop, has not yet made a statement on the news of the visit, and the problems and difficulties of the archdiocese are not yet known.
Archbishop Luc Ravel was appointed archbishop of the archdiocese in 2017 by Pope Francis and approved by the president of France, according to the Concordat governing the relations of the Church with the State in the Alsace region.
Strasbourg: important European capital
Strasbourg is the capital of the French region of Alsace and the eighth largest city in relation to population. In addition, Strasbourg is one of three European capitals along with Brussels and Luxembourg.
The city is also home to the headquarters of important European institutions such as the Council of Europe and the European Parliament. (FM)
