Newsroom (11/23/2025 17:16, Gaudium Press) Between February 22 and March 22, 2026, the remains of St. Francis of Assisi will be displayed for public veneration for the first time in history. The exhibition will take place in the crypt of the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.

Confirming the universal relevance of St. Francis of Assisi’s message and the spiritual strength that his figure continues to inspire, the event organizers announced that more than 150,000 people have already made reservations to visit the Basilica and venerate the relics of the poor man of Assisi.

Franciscan Centenary Celebrations

Friar Giulio Cesareo, OFMConv, director of the Sacro Convento Communications Office, said, “It is always a great surprise to see how much people love St. Francis. It is a great honor for us, his disciples and children, to be able to promote, through our commitment and work, an encounter with him, who still has so much to share and offer to the men and women of our time.”

This exhibition is part of the celebrations for the Franciscan Centenary in 2026, marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi. The motto chosen for this historic moment is: “St. Francis lives.” The faithful will have the option to participate in a guided group experience led by a Franciscan or enjoy a personal moment of silent prayer.
