Newsroom (08/30/2025 12:41, Gaudium Press) After a little over a year traveling through various regions throughout Mexico, a relic of the arm of St. Jude Thaddeus, one of the apostles of Our Lord Jesus Christ, arrived at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City on Saturday, August 23.
It is believed that just over 15 million devotees venerated the relic during its pilgrimage through the country, which began on July 29, 2024. It is also estimated that during this period, the relic visited around 300 parishes in more than 60 Mexican dioceses.
Relics displayed for veneration by the faithful
Throughout this week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (local time), the relics of St. Jude Thaddeus remained on display at the Altar of Kings in the Metropolitan Cathedral for veneration by the faithful, who had the opportunity to visit them and make their requests directly to the Saint.
On August 28, eight devotional Holy Masses were celebrated in honor of the patron saint of the Cathedral. The first began at 8 a.m. and the last at 5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., a Holy Mass was celebrated to bid farewell to the relic, which then traveled to the Archdiocese of Puebla, where it will remain until October 1st.
Who was Saint Jude Thaddeus?
Saint Jude Thaddeus was a first cousin of Our Lord Jesus Christ and one of the twelve Apostles. He is believed to have been martyred in Beirut decades after Christ’s death and resurrection. According to Catholic tradition, his body was transferred to a tomb in St. Peter’s Basilica centuries after his death. His arm was later removed and placed in a reliquary in the shape of a priest’s hand giving a blessing. (EPC)
