A priest and a nun from Nice, in southern France, were wounded after being attacked by a man armed with a knife.
Newsroom (26/04/2022 4:00 PM, Gaudium Press) On Mercy Sunday, April 24, Father Krzysztof was preparing to celebrate Mass in the church of Saint Pierre d’Arène in Nice when he was attacked with knife blows by a man.
The suspect, arrested by Police and identified as mentally unbalanced, stabbed the priest about 20 times and injured Sr. Marie-Claude, who tried to disarm him.
Firefighters and paramedics arrived quickly at the scene. The victims were urgently brought to the hospital but were not in grave danger.
According to reports, the assailant dropped the knife and surrendered when confronted by Police. The man is in police custody.
The attacker, a Frenchman of origin and of Jewish confession, has been undergoing psychiatric treatment in Nice for some time and has no criminal records.
The man reportedly told police officers that his wish was to kill Emmanuel Macron, but he ended up going into the church. The French Security department will investigate the case.
On October 29, 2020, Nice was the scene of a similar incident, ending in a tragedy. An Islamic terrorist broke into Nice’s Notre-Dame Cathedral in the morning and caused three fatalities: a 60-year-old woman was beheaded, the 55-year-old sacristan was stabbed, and a 44-year-old woman was also stabbed and died a few minutes later.
